A Cocktail Mixed In Wales is my new play that is being performed as part of the Tenby St David’s Day Festival at Church House on Monday 3 March at 7pm. Tickets are available from the De Valence Pavilion or on the door.
It is 1964. The setting is a party at a Hollywood residence. Attending are three Welsh actors – Stanley Baker, Richard Burton and Rachel Roberts. Baker is riding high with the success of Zulu, Burton has recently married Elizabeth Taylor after their torrid affair on the set of Cleopatra and Roberts has just lost out in the Best Actress Oscars Award for her part in This Sporting Life. The play is a fictionalised account of these three Welsh greats meeting and talking about their lives, loves, careers, successes, disappointments, about the things that matter, about choices and belonging.
It is a night to remember.
Or one to forget.
It is a potent cocktail mixed in Wales.
The play stars Andrew Davies as Stanley Baker, Sharon Thompson as Rachel Roberts and myself as Richard Burton.
