New book now available to buy online

Ancient history, the story of now. The balance of good and evil. A tale told across the shifting sands of time – myth or reality, truth or fable?

Erimos, born in balance to the beauty of creation. His need to corrupt it, spreading his cruel darkness into the human soul.  His followers in their greed and hatred see the world becoming shrouded in increasing darkness and despair. Hell on Earth.

How can the human race survive against this powerful evil consuming it? Only if the good of heart stand against him, refuse to be corrupted and afraid.

So few have this strength. Charlotte is one. Alone in a dark sea of many. Innocent, defiant, kind and brave, refusing to be turned, a light in his creeping darkness.

Can she turn the tide? Can she defeat him? Can one person change the fate of the world?

This is ERIMOS.  A blend of timeless mythology and contemporary darkness.

The book is beautifully illustrated by renowned storyteller/author/illustrator Peter Stevenson.

The book is available for purchase from Chapter One Bookshop, Narberth; Victoria Bookshop, Haverfordwest and Bookshop By The Sea, Aberystwyth or you can purchase it directly from me using the links below.

Erimos Review

“This inspired extended prose-poem, a very powerful and dark narrative about the monstrous, aggressive and embittered Erimos (‘the ogre that eats its own progeny’), is a fascinating read.  It is a work to be read and read again to really appreciate its sheer originality, its imaginative use and control of language from start to finish, and the impressive poetic and dramatic moments within the unfolding and thoroughly engaging moral-powered tale. Highly recommended.”

Reader’s Reviews

“Beautifully written, reminds me a lot of T.S. Eliot”

“The writing is phenomenal.  Every word serves a purpose and conveys a feeling.  I loved it!”

I full-on love your book! Your finely honed and crafted use of words to create atmosphere and convey layers is quite extraordinary.”

“Your use of words, with their rhythm and cadence and the images they invoke, is just magical.  It’s an amazing piece of literature.”

“I love the layers that you have given to your character”

“It is incredible.  I love it!”

“For me, Chaucer was resonant in the wonderful characterisation of Erimos and Charlotte but it was so original, so unique that it’s hard to draw comnparisons to any other poetic prose I’ve ever read.  It brimmed with passion…all in all, I’m blown away by it!”

The Broken Places

The Broken Places

What happens when you lose everything which makes your life worth living? Can you rebuild a life which you have lost – or can you only change and start reinventing yourself anew?

The Broken Places follows its central character, Tom Newman, on an horrific downward spiral through grief and loss, bringing him out the other side to discover a new reality… a state of what the reader must decide is either redemption, escape, defiance or a final act of self-destruction.

Newman has the perfect life. He is successful at work and has a beautiful young family. But then his wife, Daniela and young child, Neve, are killed by a hit and run driver and Newman is so grief-stricken he begins to pick his own life apart.

Following a night in the prison cells he makes the decision to leave a society controlled by state where personal beliefs are forbidden, living in almost total seclusion and dedicating himself to a single project, a process of creation which is only fully revealed in the final devastating lines of the novel.

The novel jumbles time, mirroring Tom’s confused state of mind. Tom recalls his first meeting with Daniela, the birth of Neve, his and Daniela’s marriage, their life together, the dreadful aftermath of the accident.

His story is presented almost as an internal monologue, with chapters interspersed with short memories and emotion.

It is an examination of the state of mind of a man engulfed in grief, whose driving force is the love of his dead family and the unbearable weight of their loss.

Downfall of a fast-falling man

Downfall of a Fast-Falling Man

The novel’s central character, Stanley Watkins, is a falling man, both literally and metaphorically. The novel opens with Stanley finding himself falling off a three-hundred foot building in the pouring rain. But how did he get here and why? And what are the reasons for his fall? As he falls, he begins to tell his story, his life literally flashing before his eyes.

The novel examines memories of his life from the day of his birth through to the journey of final descent, where we find him in the opening prologue. It is a darkly comic novel that explores everyday life, the choices and tragedies and the effects they can have on a person’s life. Layer after layer of misfortune is heaped upon Stanley throughout the novel as he struggles to remain indomitable but who finally has enough. Within the narrative told by Stanley, where each chapter is a ten-foot fall and remembered sections of memory, we find out more about Stanley and what has brought him to this, his ultimate, downfall. Downfall of a Fast-Falling Man examines the life of an everyman to whom the cards have not always been dealt kindly.
